Such a beautiful October it is in Stillwater. The colors are beginning to change and the bridge closing has left our town more peaceful than you’d expect this time of year. Before the holiday season consider a few days to enjoy the season with your loved one or possibly plan a girlfriend getaway that includes a cooking class. Learn how to make soups and homemade bread, pies and some unusual holiday offerings. Rivertown Inn is the perfect escape just 20 minutes from St. Paul. Our accommodating staff will handle all the details. Our chef Maggie Wescott - a rockstar on the local food scene - will accommodate any dietary request.

COOKING CLASSES

Our fall classes are filling up; call today to reserve your space. All classes feature hands-on instruction, plentiful food and wine samplings and take home recipes of the menus from the day. All dietary restrictions are welcome with advanced notice. Fall Soups & Bread • Saturday, October 14 & 21 - Use the bounty of fall's harvest to create mouth watering soups.  Learn to make bread to accompany the soups to create the perfect fall meal.

Thanksgiving Pies & Tarts • Saturday, November 4 & 18 - Learn to make pie dough that can be used in a variety of pies & tarts.  The dough will then be used to create scrumptious pies  and tarts that can be served at your Thanksgiving table or throughout the year.

Impressive Holiday Treats • Saturday, December 2 & 16 - Step away from traditional cut-out sugar cookies and learn to make impressive holiday treats that are sure to dazzle your family and friends.

Enjoy an evening with local and national authors or take a drive through the fall colors to St. Croix Falls where you’ll discover a vineyard that looks like a little bit of Europe. If wandering the streets of Stillwater isn’t what you’re after these are just a few possibilities you might find intriguing:

Literature Lovers Night Out is a local event sponsored by Valley Booksellers, a real bricks-and-mortar bookstore that we love right on Main Street just a few blocks from the inn.  This moderated program features national and local authors, light refreshments and drawings for prizes. Chateau St. CroixNovember 18-19, 2017: Cheese and Chocolate Weekend – Enjoy the gorgeous fall colors on this 45 minute drive from Stillwater through the back roads of Wisconsin to beautiful (and so unexpected) St. Croix Falls and Chateau St. Croix, a winery created in the image of a European estate complete with vineyard, carriage house, stables, and formal gardens. Owned and operated by Kay Shimek and managed by GM and Winemaker Matthew Scott. This event is the perfect way to relax before Thanksgiving and give you the opportunity to pick out your special holiday wine. Live music each day from 1-4pm (Saturday - Lehto & Wright Celtic Folk Trio; Sunday - Zach Harris Trio). Enjoy sampling local cheeses and wonderful chocolates during your wine tasting. Your tasting unlocks five food and wine pairing at Chateau St. Croix Winery. Food paired wine tastings between 12-5 daily.

Art Reach St. Croix presents:  Shifting: Skies, Shapes and Boundaries – Clouds shift across the sky. Time and elements shift boundaries. The shape of wood shifts under the turner’s tool. Painters Jamie Lauler Solberg and Barbara Claussen with wood turner Tod Williams explore movement and change in the latest exhibition at ArtReach St. Croix, another short walk from Rivertown Inn. On view through November 11, 2017.
