FALL / WINTER 2016

As we turn the page on 2016, the Rivertown Inn staff sincerely thanks you for being loyal subscribers to our quarterly newsletter. We strive to share innovative offerings for our guests and this season is no exception: New Year’s Eve in Stillwater, a very special holiday cooking class, and an Ice Castle right downtown Stillwater, one of only 5 in North America. We’re also taking this opportunity to introduce you to our innkeeper, who has a rich history in opera houses and shipyards. If you’ve met Larry you’ll appreciate how the Rivertown Inn is the grateful beneficiary of his many talents.

ENJOY WINTERTIME ACTIVITIES AND A COZY STAY

Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the Minnesota winters.  It's easy to learn and you can blaze your own trail.  See deer, rabbits, squirrels, and animal tracks as you meander your way through the St. Croix River Valley.  Our Snowshoe Solitude Package will pick up at the Rivertown Inn and deliver you to one of the many scenic locations within 10 to 15 minutes from the Inn.  Trek your way through a wintery park to find a bonfire and picnic basket lunch waiting for you.  Enjoy a rustic lunch that includes artisan meats and cheeses with baguette, hot festive soup, and either Bailey's coffee or spiced wine to keep you warm and, of course, marshmallows to roast over the bonfire.  We will provide you snowshoes, poles, maps, and a quick lesson, plus, water and trail snacks.  You pack the layers of warm weather gear.  Plan for about 1 to 2 hours of snowshoeing, plus time for your leisurely lunch.  Don't forget to make a snow angel!  More information can be found HERE.

LARRY LOYER – Inn Keeper and Operations Manager:  Larry hails from Michigan and relocated to Stillwater in 2002. Larry's work experiences bring a so much to his role at Rivertown Inn: a deckhand in the Merchant Marines, Assistant to the Director of the Tibbits Opera House, Theatrical Booking Agent for Michigan Performing Arts, and a certified kitchen/bath designer. "At the Inn, everything must be shipshape, and I put on a show every day," says Larry. When Larry isn’t meticulously maintaining the inn or manicuring the grounds, he’s setting tables or graciously helping guests. When he’s not at the inn, Larry enjoys collecting postcards, building miniature dollhouses, researching local history and traveling the world. Larry is the Rivertown Inn historian and gladly shares details of the inn, and of Stillwater, with our guests. Larry and his husband, Eric, reside at the Inn.
